Vitamins for Skin, Hair and Nails: What the Research Says About Gelagen's Formula
Quick answer
Gelagen pairs solid amounts of vitamin A (70% DV), vitamin E (49%), folate (111%) and B12 (250%) with a very high 5,000 mcg of biotin. Vitamin C (20 mg) and zinc (2.7 mg) are modest. Choline and inositol are trace amounts. Research backs these nutrients for normal skin and hair, mostly when a diet falls short.
What vitamins and minerals does Gelagen contain?
Gelagen lists 13 ingredients per 2-gummy serving. Some reach or pass the Daily Value, while others are small. The table compares each line and rates the dose in plain words.
| Ingredient | Per 2 gummies | % DV | Main job in the body | Dose rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vitamin A | 630 mcg | 70% | Skin cell growth | Solid dose |
| Vitamin C | 20 mg | 22% | Collagen building, antioxidant | Modest |
| Vitamin D | 10 mcg | 50% | Bones, immune health | Moderate |
| Vitamin E | 7.4 mg | 49% | Antioxidant | Moderate |
| Vitamin B6 | 2 mg | 118% | Protein use | Full DV |
| Folate | 442 mcg DFE | 110% | New cell growth | Full DV |
| Vitamin B12 | 6 mcg | 250% | Red blood cells, nerves | Above DV |
| Biotin | 5,000 mcg | 16,667% | Hair, skin, nails | Very high |
| Pantothenic acid | 5.2 mg | 104% | Energy use | Full DV |
| Choline | 0.04 mg | <1% | Cell membranes | Trace |
| Iodine | 42 mcg | 28% | Thyroid hormones | Moderate |
| Zinc | 2.7 mg | 25% | Skin repair | Modest |
| Inositol | 40 mcg | No DV | Cell signaling | Trace |
The amounts come from the published ingredient list, since the back-label image was not supplied. Inactive ingredients and sugar are not published. See the Gelagen Supplement Facts page for the full panel.
How do vitamins A, C and E in Gelagen relate to skin?
These three are the classic skin vitamins. Gelagen includes all of them, at quite different strengths.
Vitamin A: 630 mcg (70% DV)
Vitamin A helps cells grow and renew, including skin cells (NIH ODS). Gelagen uses retinyl acetate, a preformed type your body can use right away. It is one of the stronger lines on the panel.
Vitamin C: 20 mg (22% DV)
Skin holds high levels of vitamin C, which it uses to build collagen and fight oxidative stress (Pullar et al., 2017). Adults need 75 to 90 mg a day (NIH ODS), so Gelagen covers a small share. Fruit and vegetables should cover the rest.
Vitamin E: 7.4 mg (49% DV)
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps protect cells (NIH ODS). Half the Daily Value is a sensible support amount, not a megadose.

What does the research say about biotin and the B vitamins in Gelagen?
The B vitamins make up most of the Gelagen panel. Biotin gets the most attention, and it carries the biggest dose.
Biotin: 5,000 mcg (16,667% DV)
A true biotin shortage can cause thin hair, brittle nails and a scaly rash (NIH ODS). For people who are not short, reviews find little proof that extra biotin improves hair (Patel et al., 2017). High biotin also affects some blood tests, which our biotin and blood tests post explains in full.
Folate, B6, B12 and pantothenic acid
Folate helps the body make new cells (NIH ODS). Gelagen gives 442 mcg DFE, or 111% of the Daily Value. B12 at 6 mcg (250%), B6 at 2 mg (118%) and pantothenic acid at 5.2 mg (104%) all meet or pass daily needs. These amounts mainly help fill gaps in an everyday diet.
Does the Gelagen formula fit your routine and budget?
How do zinc, iodine and vitamin D in Gelagen fit in?
Gelagen adds one mineral pair and one fat-soluble vitamin. None of them is a large dose.
Low vitamin D and low zinc have both been linked with some types of hair loss (Almohanna et al., 2019). The Gelagen ingredients guide covers each mineral in more depth.
Which parts of the Gelagen formula are weakest?
Every formula has soft spots. In Gelagen, they are easy to name.
- Choline at 0.04 mg is under 1% of the 425 to 550 mg adequate intake (NIH ODS)
- Inositol at 40 mcg is far below the amounts used in studies
- Vitamin C at 20 mg covers roughly a fifth of adult needs
- No collagen is listed, despite the name (is Gelagen a collagen gummy?)
None of these is a safety issue. They simply mean a few lines add little. The core of the formula is vitamins A and E, the B vitamins and biotin.
What cautions come with the vitamins in Gelagen?
Four points deserve a clear mention. Each one names a real interaction from the research.
| Nutrient | Caution | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Biotin | Can skew some lab tests, including troponin and thyroid tests (FDA, 2022) | Tell your doctor and lab |
| Vitamin A | Preformed vitamin A needs care in pregnancy; upper limit 3,000 mcg (NIH ODS) | Ask a clinician if pregnant or planning |
| Vitamin E | Large doses with blood thinners can raise bleeding risk (NIH ODS) | Mention it if you take a blood thinner |
| Folate | High folate can hide a B12 shortage (NIH ODS) | Share all supplements with your doctor |
The vitamin E dose here is modest, but the note still applies if you take other supplements. The Gelagen side effects page and the who Gelagen is for page explain who should check first.
How long before the vitamins in Gelagen show any change?
Skin, hair and nails renew slowly, so vitamins take time. Most buyers report waiting 3-6 weeks, and results vary.

The Gelagen results timeline sets out what a fair trial looks like week by week.
Gelagen vitamins: common questions
Which vitamin in Gelagen is highest?
Biotin, at 5,000 mcg per serving, or 16,667% of the Daily Value. Vitamin B12 is next at 250%.
Is there collagen in Gelagen?
No collagen is listed on the panel. The formula includes vitamin C and zinc, which the body uses to make its own collagen.
Do vitamins help hair if I am not deficient?
The evidence is thin. A review of vitamins and hair loss found the clearest links in people with a shortfall (Almohanna et al., 2019).
Can I take Gelagen with a multivitamin?
Add up shared nutrients first, especially vitamin A, folate and biotin. Ask your clinician if the totals look high.
Why are choline and inositol so low?
The reason is not published. At 0.04 mg and 40 mcg, both are far below the amounts used in studies, so they add little.
